What is this apple bread called? How do I make it?

Years ago my grandmother made a delicious sweet loaf of bread with apples and raisins rolled up in it. It was a bit like a large Chelsea bun with apples.
I'd love to make it but I can't find the recipe. I've looked on the Internet but I've had no luck.
I don't know why but I assume it's a German or Austrian recipe. It's yeasted dough rolled up with fruit. Does anyone know a recipe for something similar or does anyone know what it might be called so I can search again? Thank you in advance.

It sounds like looking for something which is known as yeast cake in Jewish bakeries in the UK and babka in the US. In Manchester it is sold as 'kuchen' which is a generic Germanic word for cake, but specifically describes a yeast cake in the Jewish community. All versions come with fruit or chocolate in them, some are iced and the fruit loaves can be eaten buttered or plain. My favourite is a cinnamony-almond filling. Take a look at this - does it sound like a good base recipe for what your grandma made?

That does sound like a good base. I love the sound of the topping too! I think I'll get experimenting and see what I can come up with.
