what goes well with duck?

i want to cook duck on christmas day and possibly venison aswell. Never cooked duck (breast) before so was wondering if anyone had tips for what will go well with it what sauce etc. and how to make it would be great too.

sour cherry sauce works well with both and its pretty.

German MIL makes duck with rot kraut (buy in jar from lidl, add apple and onion, cloves and cook for a bit) and German potato dumplings. I don't know how to make these but if you google you can find a recipe. It's so good! She also makes a sauce by adding water to the duck juices, no bistro etc needed.

I do a redcurrant jelly and port sauce with duck, it is really easy. Its based on this recipe:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1188/roast-duck-legs-with-red-wine-sauce but I used port instead- I think just because I had it open.

My easy cherry sauce recipe

1/2 jar cherry jam - morello with a few cherries in it not the 20p stuff

1/2 a bottle of red wine

bung both in a pan and simmer (boil if in a hurry) until it thickens to a sauce.

Collect the duck fat for roasting potatoes
