i am not a very precise cook....but i:

brown sausages. take out of pan. brown some chopped onions, whole garlic. add some sliced mushrooms or chopped celery if have them, and some of cannellini or butter beans, tin of chopped tomatos, handful herbs, slug of wine (red or white). bring to vigorous simmer, add sausages. stick it in the oven for an hour or so.

or

brown sausages, add some bacon or pancetta to pan and brown, add some puy or green lentils, cup of water, a hefty slug of port, cook for forty minutes or until lentils soft. add a tbsp cream if its not already rich enough....

brown sausages and cook onions
add tin tomatoes, tin of Heinz baked beans, pinch mixed herbs little water

(can add canellini beans / chickpeas / butter beans too .. dependent on taste

cover casserole and bake in oven for 45 minutes

(adapted from The Dinner Lady) .. dead easy very yummy

Great idea!
I have some in the fridge. How can long can sausages keep for? I have already disposed of the packaging so can't see a use by date?

Tinker · 10/01/2006 16:21

Stick some Lea & Perrins in as well.

MrsDoolittle · 10/01/2006 16:23

ooooh yes, love Lea and Perrins

Kayleigh · 10/01/2006 16:25

I pour some HP sauce into mine. Gives it a lovely flavour.

MrsDoolittle · 10/01/2006 16:26

So can I use these sausages or not? Anyone?

sickandtired · 10/01/2006 16:37

I add a can of rice and a can of water to mine, usually with peas, onions, sausages (obv!!0 and tinned tomatoes, plus whatever else I fancy in the way of flavouring.

mazzystar · 10/01/2006 16:48

Mrs D
when did you buy them? how do they smell? how do they look?
if in doubt, throw it out

no beans. hmm have you got chickpeas? carrots? mushrooms. any of those are nice. could do a sidey of saute potatos?

sickandtired · 10/01/2006 16:49

can? Could I add a cup of rice and it will cook in the sauce?

I was going to do it with mash anyway greedy eh! But I still want beans, off to the shop I think, have to say, that was a piece of piss to make, and it smells nicer than the mix!

I do the Dinner Lady one too. You can do it with two tins of tomatoes instead of tomatoes and beans. I have sausage casserole in the oven just now actually, made with two tins of tomatoes, then I serve with beans and mash.

Twiglett · 10/01/2006 16:51

if no beans .. can make mine with just 2 cans of tomatoes instead .. don't need beans really I just like them

PeachyClair · 10/01/2006 16:55

A cup will work- I usually just use the tomato tin, saves on washing up- scummy muumy me!
(trick learned from my wonderful xmil)

PeachyClair · 10/01/2006 16:55

You add the same volume of water as you use rice, BTW as it will absorb a lot

MrsDoolittle · 10/01/2006 17:02

Ah well, what if I have no sausages?

I have just had a look and they were disintegrating

The dog is pleased though!!

Twiglett · 10/01/2006 17:03

mmmm..... rice.... interrrresting

sickandtired · 10/01/2006 17:07
