i am wanting to get my baby daughter to using a spoon herself just because i think she should be however i am reluctant to because she makes such a mess so i end up spoon feeding her. but i know i've got to somehow stop this. any tips on making the transition, and at what age etc?

My best tip is to give her a spoon to use whilst you continue to spoon feed her. That way she'll get the practice while you get the majority spooned in. That said, it probably won't be long before she refuses your spoonful and insist on doing it herself. You just have to live with the mess. It doesn't last long as they usually just want to eat. Closely supervise wheetabix though as that stuff dries like cement;-) I still have a blob on my ceiling from about a year ago.

Agree with RCOR. (Also have some Weetabix pebble-dash) Progressed from 'baby holds the spoon while I feed' to me loading the spoon with the food and letting DS deliver it into his mouth. Sitting up age... 6 months onwards. Would also add the tip to make food spoonable... ie. not too runny or sloppy but capable of adhering to the spoon long enough to make it from bowl to mouth. Less frustrating for them that way and also less messy.
