Does it have to be food? I'd really not go there until they are more sure of what they can or can't tolerate.

I'd agree with fuckity, is it a good idea to give someone with newly diagnosed stomach/digestive problems a food gift?? depending on their treatment etc they may not have much of an appetite, or they may have specific dietary requirements that you should ask them about.

I know a couple of people with Crohn's and sometimes they are avoiding food completely (i.e. on nutrition drinks), sometimes they can eat normally and sometimes they avoid high fibre.

no, just some kind of token gift -a wee thing from me

i normally give bottle of wine or tin of chocs -but don't know how suitable these would be--she is recently diagnosed but has had the symptons for many years -poor thing has suffered a lot

chocs are probably fine.

why not get a plant or some flowers

puzzlesum · 11/12/2011 11:57

Yes, I'm sorry - it seems insensitive to get a food present for someone newly diagnosed with a very difficult digestion problem. I would get a plant.
