I like fairy cakes, smudge of white icing then chocolate sprinkle or hundreds & thousands

DD wants to make cup cake, she has a set of those squeezy bottles (that look like accordions) what sort of icing do we use?

TIA

Buttercream? 100g very soft butter, 300g icing sugar, a little hot water. Beat v well. Lurid colourings optional.

Thanks; I think in our case 'lurid colourings' will be required!

It didn't work when I did it with buttercream, it was too runny but that might be because I'm shite at baking.

I'm organising this by phone......DD is normally quite good but is having a crisis of confidence

I usually use double icing sugar to butter/marg. beat marg well first, add in icing sugar, tbspn milk and colouring, beat, beat and beat some more. I've not used teh accordion bottles though, I always use a bag.

yes, buttercream is what you need.
But consistency and temp affect how they come out of icing nozzles (tedious)

Cakes out of the oven

Icing sugar & butter mixed - a bit of milk added

It's all about to be split to be coloured

Don't forget to let the cakes cool before you ice them or the icing will melt!
