Hello,

can anyone out there recommend a dairy free custard that is reasonably bright in colour?

DD (2) is at nursery and currently on a dairy free diet for potential allergies/eczema (on advice of GP whilst we wait for paed appointment!). She is ok with soya milk and youghurt but when everyone elses custard comes out she looks at theirs and then refuses to eat her very pale dairy free custard because it looks so different.... does anyone know of a nice bright yellow custard that I can give to the nursery for her?

many thanks

Could you just make Birds with Soya milk - it comes as a powder and makes up pretty bright with cows milk!

Could you colour her custard in advance? If you want to avoid actual food colouring, you could steep a little saffron in soya milk and mix it in.

Or turmeric, I suppose. But I think saffron would be a less weird additional flavour for puddings.

Thank you, i'm not sure the nursery will allow me to take in food like that, ok with premade packages but i could pass on the suggestions to the cook....
