Mercy, you can buy veggie variations of Worcester sauce from health food shops. They're not quite the same, but almost. Or you can concoct a reasonable imitation from tamarind paste, cider vinegar and some veggie stock (I can't give precise quantities on this, but I've done it in an emergency).

Returning to the question, how about Wensleydale and stem ginger - you could add a bit of crushed garlic too. Or mozzarella, basil and mushroom? OK, I know these are just variations on the cheese theme, but cheese toasties really are the best kind.

tuna red onion mayo and grated cheese fattening but delicious!I don't have a machine just toasting bags and they work fine

Try chopped cauliflower, steamed. Add s&p and your favourite mayo. This tastes just like cheese and yet it isn't. I have also tried this with steamed broccoli and or carrot with the mayo. Any grated vegies work well. This is sure to convert anybody to an alternative.

Boil up equal quantities of sweet potato, carrot adn lentil with a small onion (chopped) until mushy....then mash together with butter and black pepper. If you have fresh coriander or a bit of lemon zest it's even better....lovely warming, squidgy, comfort food and quite healthy too!
