From Domestic Goddess? The one where you soak the fruit in gallons of alcohol for several months before you make the cake?

It sounds kinda good, but can't be arsed to go to the bother without some MN recommendations that my work will be worth it.

Im a baker but I leave this delectable Jamaican black cake to the pro! I get all my Black Cakes from Ms. Merl of Jamaicanblackcake.com. She literally hand selects all her fruits, even her raisins one by one, and bakes to order. And all her ingredients (rum and port wine included) she gets from Jamaica too! I tried making it and it just didnt taste right. A friend told me about this site and I ordered a Jamaican Black Cake and her Rum Cupcakes and will never turn back! Seriously, I recommend ordering from her. Her turnaround is amazing and this cake lasts for months so ordering ahead is key!

Hmm, are you, in fact Ms Merl herself, by any chance jleggio? This sounds suspiciously like an advert...

Hmmm, especially the 'I'm a baker'.....

Anyway, just in case, my MIL makes a black cake every year. She soaks her fruit for a year in a bottle and shoves it in a cipboard so no effort there really.

And is it good savoy? Worth making? And would I need to keep it away from small children and naked flames?

Yes it's lovely. My dc have it, Blush but it's a part of their cultural heritage as Thorntons is a part of mine therefore fine.

Grin - I think I can probably convince myself that a long stint in the oven will evaporate any alcohol. Thanks. I'd better get me some rum.
