Friends coming for a meal - Ideas for a starter please...

I am having friends over Sat night, my ds have a party to go to, so I need some ideas for a starter that I can make in the morning, I do not like cooking in front of people, and our table is in the kitchen. Also they do not eat red meat or fish, when we went to them, my girlfriend gave us stuffed peppers, which were lovely. Any ideas? Thanks.

buy a camberbert in a box and insert little sprigs of fresh rosemary into the top of the cheese, and thinly sliced garlic bits, plop a dollop of chutney on the top and bake in oven for half an hour - serve with chunks of crusty bread - like a mini fondue. Yummy. (you bake it in it's box, but with lid off - oh and make sure the plastic wrapper from cheese is taken off too!)

Camberbert sounds lovely, only my dh doesn't like it. Could I have your homemade soup recipe rummum please?

I'm back....
I get a bag of mixed vegetables from tesco's onion, potato, swede, carrot, that sort of thing(99p I think) cover and boil in a vegetable oxo cube.. when they are soft I blend it with my hand mixer till it is really smooth... [Nows the good bit]... I then add fresh cream to taste... I like quite a bit... voilà,... creamy vegetable soup..
lovely MMMMMMMmmmmmm
