I need a recipe for a simple but impressive looking b'day cake that me and dd can make!!

It's dp's b'day on Sunday and dd wants to make him a cake. I can see it being a total disaster!!! Got to give it a go though.... any very simple but effective recipes much appreciated!

lots of little cupcakes, ice each one with one letter to make up 'happy birthday daddy' when grouped togather in a circle. leave some plain for the candles.

Misdee - I did that for DD's birthday and it looked fab. Bought loads of sparkly tubes of icing and decorations, different coloured icing on the cakes and bright candles. Will never make a birthday cake again as it was so easy to pop one in a party bag too!

Did the same for DD1's 'baby welcoming' - great idea misdee

Does anyone know where you can get fairly rigid, square, foil cake cases from as they would look particularly good I think (DS's birthday soon)?
