Jam Recipes

Does anyone have any jam recipes that don't require buying huge amounts of expensive fruit?

Would like to make some as gifts and don't mind a bit of work, just want to keep the cost as low as possible!

Not sure about cheap jams at this time of year unless you have a load of fruit in the freezer (I do but that's cos I have no time to make jam in summer and I find that strawberries make better jam after they've been frozen). However, apples are still dirt cheap at market or you might know someone with loads to give away so I'd be tempted to make apple chutney and just make sure that you warn people to let it mature for 3 months before they eat it. Oh and be prepared for a house that smells of vinegar for several days!
