Preserves- sterilizing the spoon

Over the weekend I made Christmas chutney. I sterilized the jars but used a clean ( but not sterilized ) spoon from the drawer to put the chutney in the jars. Will this mean that I will have to bin the lot?

Probably not.

Shouldn't have thought so.

I made onion chutney last week and I thought the same thing, however I was already spooning it into the jars so it was too late but tbh everything I have read on preserving, nowhere does it say to sterilise the spoon. Next time (when I get round to it) I may pop into the boiling pan with the jar lids, but it is fine to not.

Thank you all. I think it is safe to say, my chutney won't go in the bin! Yeah

After all that, I have spoken to my aunt who is a food scientist. She said - no problem with the spoon. The vinegar and heat would have killed the bugs! Yeah.
