Do I "need" a food mixer?

I've spent the past few weeks drooling over a stand mixer. I would probably use it mainly for making cakes. I have a food processor and a breadmaker already.

Would it be a waste of money? Should I just get an electric whisk which would be cheaper and take up less space?

How often do you bake?
I've never had a stand mixer or felt I needed one but if you were going to use it every week you might.

Not every week, but some weeks, and I do enjoy it.

I made a big apple cake last week and just thought it would be so much easier with a mixer, but I am not one for making pavlovas and such fanciful things (but maybe I would if I had a mixer...)

I have a fairly substantial food processor but only have a hand-held food mixer... the simple kind with detachable beaters. I find that's fine for most cake/dessert-making, creaming together butter/sugar or whipping up eggs for meringues etc. and have never felt the need to upgrade

I have an electric whisk and a food mixer thing. I never use the mixer- it's heavy to pull out of the cupboard, takes more washing up and the whisk attachment gets clogged up with cake mixture. The electric hand whisk every time for me

no you don't NEED one.... but neither do I.... doesn't stop me wanting one of those kenwood fantabulous pretty jobbies!

'Tis true, I don't need one, but I do think the Kmix is a thing of beauty!

A Hand mixer is fine for most jobs and much less work that making it completely by hand. I do however LOVE my Kenwood Chef.
