So... I need someone to make up my mind for me please <spineless>

Tomorrow is our anniversary and I stupidly decided I wanted to hype it up and have a lovely evening in drinking cooking and relaxing.

I have had the menu planned for days and, DP having left this morning on a business trip, I've sat down to look at it again and decided everything needs to go.

The only bits I'm keeping are roasted peaches with goats' cheese & honey (DP loves honey) and Guinness chocolate pudding (I love Guinness, he loves chocolate).

I was thinking of making small dishes we could share/bitesize food but I don't want to waste anything with leftover ingredients. DP hates anything he deems 'processed' and will probably be craving fresh food following this trip as he will have eaten fast food for lunch, dinner and lunch tomorrow. I don't eat pork (am happy to make it for him but, again, feel it would be a waste for one person). We both like any kind of different food/taste experiences but I'm on a curry binge at the minute so he'd probably be happier if nothing curried/overly spicy turned up on the table.

I don't mind buying anything extra. Currently we have tomatoes, baby leaf spinach, onions, potatoes, butternut squash x2 and various cupboard bits (pulses, rice etc.).

Can anybody bash me over the head steer me in the right direction please? I have a gazillion cooking books and loads of bookmarks but I can't make my mind up. It needs to be good as this is my present to him. Thank you!

Partridge, pot roasted. One each. Something a bit different, with no leftovers.

Well hung amazing steak with béarnaise.

With nice sidey bits, roasted tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, really good red wine.

What about tapas?

SexyDomesticatedDab · 10/11/2011 17:12

Roasted peaches

RoseC served naked on bed

Guiness Chocolate pudding afters in bed

Sounds OK to me.

I think if I tried to serve myself for dinner I'd get the Hmm face and asked where the real meal was. He takes food quite seriously Grin

Tapas sounds great, thank you :) We do have a massive jar of sundried tomatoes in the fridge so I can do something with that and mozzarella. Maybe lots of things spread out on plates?

Got it! He loves mezze/Middle Eastern style dishes... maybe I can find some nibbly things along that line. Does anyone have any good recipes in that area please?

I take my food seriously too - waaaaay to many cookery books (says DW) but given a choice between the two......

RoseC · 10/11/2011 17:37

Baba ganoush! I could eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I've also found a feta dip and some falafel recipes online.

SDD He knows he'll get both so the Hmm face would be a certainty if I tried to tell him he had a choice Grin

Thank you all for your help :)

Hope it goes well and you both get what you like Grin.
