Help need some very low fat party food ideas

I am doing a birthday wine and nibbles night for my mums birthday, the thing is she is taking Alli so can't eat fat. She is doing so well that I dont want to put temptation her way, but I think she deserves a little birthday celebration. Any ideas on little nibbles either shop bought or homemade would be very welcome.

Thank you

Crudites and pitta bread with hummus and salsa dips immediately springs to mind.

There's a lovely recipe for a salad in one of the Moro books that has a really low (no?) fat dressing - I'm trying (and failing) to find it online - will post it if/when I do.

Ah. It's here - right at the bottom of the page; Moroccan bread salad with grilled green peppers and tomatoes. And it has way more oil in it than I remembered, sorry Blush

I imagine there are dips you could make with 0% fat yoghurt.

Natural yoghurt mixed with a bit of mint sauce, a squeeze of lemon juice and some s&p - for use as a dip with carrot sticks, celery etc

M&S do some lovely ready cooked prawns with chilli and coriander or just lemon.

Popbiscuit · 09/11/2011 17:48

marinated grilled shrimp on skewers or shrimp with cocktail sauce.

tomato bruschetta, crudites and dip and some Fruit kebabs?

Girdled chilli and garlic chicken on skewers with yoghurt and mint dip. Could

Chicken Tikka on skewers... marinade lean chicken breast in low-fat yoghurt and Tikka spices before grilling. Serve with a low-fat yoghurt dip to which finely chopped cucumber has been added

Peel and slice a small cucumber in 2cm slices and remove some of the seeds to make little baskets. Fill with tuna mixed with low fat mayo or extra light cream cheese, salt and pepper, chopped up chives

Meatballs made with turkey mince and herbs, with a tomato/chilli dipping sauce

Smoked salmon blinis (use extra light philly)

Vegetable crisps- you could make these yourself using assorted root veg roasted for ages on a low temp (use frylight spray oil instead of oil)

There was a recipe in BBC Good Food magazine a while ago about roasting chickpeas in some spices whih made them like nuts to nibble on. It might be on the website?

Aworryingtrend · 10/11/2011 08:27

here it is

I haven't tried it so I can't vouch for the taste.

I'm going to try the spicy chickpeas recipe, thanks Aworryingtrend. I made chickpea burgers a while ago and there were a few that broke away from the burger, so roasted on their own - crispy and delicious
