In greengrocers today, was distracted by DD2 screaming, told DD1 to choose herself a piece of fruit for lunch. I thought she had picked an orange.

Just unpacked bags, and it is certainly not an orange! It looks like a large, underripe tomato and it has a circle of dry-looking brownish-grey leaves on the top.

Is it a fruit? How do we eat it? It is quite firm - not yet ripe?? DD is impatient to bite into it, am holding her back pending positive identification; what on earth is it??

Sharron Fruit

Oh is that what you call them over here? I know them as Persimmons. If they are firm, you can peel them and eat the flesh, or just bite into them like an apple.

Yes, that's it! OK, off to try it then.
