Minced beef - use by date yesterday

Can I use it or is it a no go?
FSA says to not risk it after use by date.
It looks fine, I haven't opened it (airtight pack), so can't smell it. If it is OK, can I freeze it once I've cooked it (want to make sheps pie).
Thanks
PS I have 2 pre-schoolers, so don't want to risk it if there is any chance!

I would if it's been kept in a properly cold fridge and didn't have any greeny bits round the edges. Open it and give it a good sniff.

It will be absolutely fine and yes freeze it afterwards.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2011 14:40

Yes, open it, smell it, if it's OK cook it. And freezing it will be fine too.

wahwahwah · 27/10/2011 14:41

Should be ok. As long as it doensn't smell horrible or have a weird colour/slimy appearance.

sheeplikessleep · 27/10/2011 14:43

Blimey, that was quick! Thanks all, I'll have a proper sniff of it tonight and hopefully it will be fine. Thanks

Colour looks normal through the cellaphane. Better not tell DH though, he's a bit of a stickler for things like this!
Cheers

Anyone good with sausages? DS has decided he wants one (meat not quorn) and I am not really sure how best to cook it. I dont want the whole place smelling of fat or have my hob covered in sausage spit.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 27/10/2011 17:47

Stick it in the oven - Gas Mark 6 - for 40-ish minutes, wahwah.

wahwahwah · 27/10/2011 18:13

I can cook really..!

wahwahwah · 27/10/2011 18:31

Oh god it smells like vomit. I didnt prick it (I hears that you dont have to these days) and when I cut it to see if it was cooked, all this jouce splodged out. It looks cooked (its a veal sausage) but it absolutely stinks. Hopefullt DS will douse it in ketchup so that I won't throw up. Sausages are yukky.
