I always grill sausages first - then chop them into 3 pieces each then put in slow cooker with 1 chopped onion, stick celery, carrot, tin of tomatoes, stock cube, chopped garlic, pinch of chili, some thyme and then a tin of cannelini or butter beans is nice about an hour before the end. Nice with a bit of grainy mustard, cider, chopped mushrooms, red wine or if you want or Worcester sauce. Or you could use cider and cream instead of tinned tomatoes and add grainy mustard.

Is up to you really, very forgiving if you want to use up left over veg.

i sometimes us a tin of baked beans as the base of mine and then add onions, thyme, garlic, mustard, tom puree...and whatever...as fergoose says its a very forgiving recipe

We like doing it without the tomatoes sometimes, not a big fan of them.

brown sausages, chuck in carrots, potatoes, celery, onion, garlic and leek chopped up, season with salt and pepper, 1 bay leaf and whatever herbs you fancy. top up with stock and leave it to cook for 6-8 hours. its my favourite dish :o
