yes. well I have seen the multiple sale adverts in the new york times for ethan allan every holiday season so have a very good idea what you mean....
the slippers are very important to get right if you are going for that look. they have to set static sparks going when you brush them together. and be a peculiar shade of greenyblue that they call "jade" and you call "gangrene"

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 26/12/2005 23:59

whoops, ethel austin not ethan allan.

no, don't think I have heard of ethel austin. shall google and be right back

moondog · 27/12/2005 00:00

Heathcliffscathy · 27/12/2005 00:03

oooo pph suffice to say i married one...they are wonderful! his best friend (and our best man) is a taurean!

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 27/12/2005 00:04

oh good. Odd how I don't know any, but that happens, doesn't it?

merrySOAPBOXingday · 27/12/2005 00:10

My best friend is an aquarian, she is loyal, but rather demanding. She is a free spirit but doesn't like to stand out from the crowd.

I'm not terribly convinced by this whole astrology milarky, if it worked there would only be 12 variations on a theme and I'm convinced there are far more than that{grin]

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 27/12/2005 00:12

no I'm not really but it is interesting how most of my friends fall into about 4 star signs. don't know any aquariuses, capricorns, sagittariuses or scorpios....

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 27/12/2005 00:13

actually maybe one of my ds's is sagittarius - beginning of sept? don't know!

Heathcliffscathy · 27/12/2005 00:26

beg of sept is virgo. and it isn't 12 sunsigns it's an infinite variety of natal charts based on the exact time and date of birth to the minute and place of birth of the person, which gives rather more variation. but sunsigns are still fun

pah to goose

our local bronze turkey was delicious

Foodie confessions time:

Noone wanted pancakes and bacon or champagne on xmas morning
MIL burnt all my goats cheese and chili jam canapes
We ended up going to the local foodie pub for dinner last night as I couldn't be bothered to cook

FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 29/12/2005 14:13

oh no Enid your yummy goaty canapes!!! how could she!
poor Moondog....
my mum gets the local butcher to cook the goose for her and my dad picks it up all hot and yummy for Xmas lunch..... clever mummy! But she does make everything else
Our bronze free range happy turkey was very good, as well as the cranberry and apple sauce, and the gravy (v impressed with myself!!)etc...
The Xmas eve Cinnamon beef stew was fabulous, great recipe (from waitrose magazine, can be found on website here )
and the lemon and lime ice-cream was delicious
Meringues were a bit too sweet and too hard for my liking (dd loves them regardless). Can't seem to get my meringues right since the new oven....
and the blinis were v nice too (have frozen half of them....)
Will be sure to dig out this thread next Xmas for you moondog

WideWebWitch · 29/12/2005 14:14

I've been thinking about your chilli jam enid. I overcooked our beef, it was vile. And the veg were soggy, worse meal I've ever cooked. Sorry to hear about the goose and yer leg moondog!

Told you so

Blossomgoodwill · 29/12/2005 15:21

The thought of eating a grease ridden goose makes me feel so ill. The very reason I don't eat lamb. The smell is hideous!

ParrupupumScum · 29/12/2005 15:25

Sorry- but our goose was fantastic! Really really yumliciously good. And easy too- just shoved chopped onion and apple and pear and prunes and celery up its bum, doused it in lime and maple syrup and came back 3 hours later. Mmmmmmmmmm. And we've got loads of lovely fat for roasties. And lovely stock too- cooked a stew yesterday with a ladleful of it for luck and it was fab. [Unbearably smug emoticon]

bosscatsroastingonanopenfire · 29/12/2005 16:09

wish I was doing goose for new years day but I've invited too may people and am doing a buffet. I hate the fact I was so enthusiastic pre christmas and all "ooh come to me I'll cook" and now I want to take all the stupid decorations down and stop eating leftovers.

we had turkey. very nice kelly bronze one. I'm with Issy next year, its far too faddly just for one day. Its like a big roast and I didn't spend one hour with my children opening presents

Blandmum · 29/12/2005 16:12

Moondog That will teach you to sneer at my turkey crown!

iota · 29/12/2005 16:14

our waitrose part-boned ready stuffed turkey was very tasty -- even if it didi look like it had been run over

puff · 29/12/2005 16:16

I made Boeuf Bourgignon on Xmas Eve and it was so much more delicious than the turkey dinner the next day. I may do the same as Issymum next year.

thecattleareALOHing · 29/12/2005 16:22

Had roast lamb. My favourite. Dh cooked everything while listening to Sorry I Haven't A Clue while I pushed dd round the park on a sparkling Christmas morning.
We had Sainsbury's panettone Christmas pudding and a dark chocolate tart for pudding. Both delicious.

GeorginaA · 29/12/2005 16:24

My Bernerd Matthews intensively farmed turkey was DELICIOUS! (but we still will be saving up further in advance for a local free range one next year )

TurkeyGang · 29/12/2005 16:34

Should've got a turkey crown instead moondog(Only joking!)
