I'm making a Peppa Pig birthday cake for DD and using buttercream to ice it.
I've found lots of advise online saying that you can make buttercream look almost as smooth as fondant by waiting for it to harden a little then smoothing it down using smooth kitchen roll/paper towels and just the heat from your hands. This sounds great as my buttercream always looks a bit rubbish.
BUT... I don't know where to find smooth paper towels. All the ones in the UK have a bobbly appearance which I don't want to transfer to my cake. Does anyone know of a make in the UK that is smooth. The websites where I got the advise from are American and refer to Viva paper towels.
Or do you think baking paper/greaseproof paper would work?
Thanks in advance for you help oh wise mumsnetters.
