Dear Mums

Sorry this isn't very festive related!!! Can any one advice me on when babies can have the following foods. My dd is 8 1/2 months old.

cornflour, kidney beans and mushrooms.

Also, what do mums use for chicken/veg stock? The cubes seem high in salt. Is this ok in small quantities?

I would just like to also say... Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all.

I can't see why he can't have those. My dts have had them all by now at 9 mnths. And I don't worry about stock neither - a little salt won't hurt. I just don't add as much sauce to their dinners if it is high in salt, or water it down first.

I can't see why cornflour would be a prob. Kidney beans should also be ok but make sure they're cooked, obv and mushrooms definitely ok. Stock cubes are high in salt but I don't think it would matter given the small amount and given that it will be diluted in recipes.

you can get low salt vegetable stock cubes from the supermarket. They are Kallo organic vegetable stock cubes. I got mine from the Co-Op

Thank you all

you can get kallo low-salt stock cubes in sainsbutrys and tesco too
and in holland and barrett

I used Marigold reduced salt vegetable bouillon for stock and then still diluted it down a bit more. I get it in Sainsburys but I think lots of supermarkets stock it. I did initially try making my own stock but it was more bother than it was worth.

either make own veg stock (which id probably use maybe for the first second bath of baby purees) but them progress to Know organic low salt veg stock.

I see no reaosn why they cant have corn flour at 6 months (when they have flour in cheese sauce etc) and id see no reason not to give an 8 1/2 month old kidney beans or muchrooms either (as long as no allergy history etc)

Dont forget that when he's a year (only about 14 weeks away) he can eat pretty much ANYTHING at all (except whole nuts!)

Make sure stock cubes do not have E621 as a flavour enhancer. This is MSG in disguise.

Also if this is just for a baby I wouldn't worry about the stock at all, the veggies will be quite tasty enough on their own.

I use marigold stock powder - all the foods are OK.
