Can anyone recommend a slow cooker?

I'm looking for a slow cooker with a transparent lid (to stop me opening it up) and that I can use to brown the food e.g. can be used on the hob.

Any ideas?

My Morphy Richards one fits that description and I have no complaints about it. You will still open it up, as the lid steams up. As would any lid.

Which one is that - is it the flavour savour? Is it worth the money?

Oh, I wouldn't have guessed that I could use that one to brown the food on the hob first.

To use on the hob as well, you really do need a crockpot.

that one is not recommended to go on the hob - you need the expensive one to be able to do that - like this one

I would just buy a cheap one and brown off stuff in another pan first to be honest

I saw that in John Lewis today and almost bought it. I was put off it by not being able to see through the lid but if they get covered in steam anyway I think I'll opt for that one. It was very nice.

mine has a glass lid, but to be honest you are right, with the steam you can't see through it much anyway. It's not like you need to keep looking to check if it is burning or reducing too much, as that won't happen anyway.

Apparently every time you take the lid off it adds another 30 minutes to the cooking time, so I reckon just switch on and leave alone.
