DS is 23 months (almost). He hardly eats anything. He does not drink much milk. He is not underweight, probably a little small for his age, but not developmentally disadvantaged, happy, etc.

But, he he simply is a pain to cook for. He eats:

bread/toast
milk - mostly warm, from a cup, and not loads
pasta - til it comes out of his ears
fruit
porridge/cereal
Fish fingers
tinned spagheti (sometimes beans but not always).
and the obvious junk food if offered (chips, chocolate, crisps etc, get this sometimes as he has older sister, but not loads).
Sometimes sausages

NO vegetables, unless i blend it with a tomato sauce for pasta.
No meat unless I can disguise it with pasta sauce

We try to give him pasta with a variety of sauces (cheese, tomato with veg mushed into it, etc) but he knows if it has fish in for example and picks the pasta out, leaves anything that is not actually pasta!

DD is fed up with pasta and it makes us all eating together difficult as we have to do him and us different meals, which them upsets him as he wants the same as us, but just wont eat it!

DH is getting worried, I am a bit, but i think deep down it is probably ok, we just have to accept that he will only eat pasta for a while and go with it.

But, any helpful suggestions of how to get him to eat more/reassure us that this is not so bad and if we just go with it he will get through it being fine with more variety. DD was a bit fussy like this, but not so bad, and not for so long.

oh how strange, I posted a long post yesterday and it has disappeared! So I will post it again.

I made home made chicken nuggets, bashed some chicken, tossed it in egg/breadcrumbs, fried, served with little pots of ketchup and mayo. And he LOVED it, he ate about 5 bits. DD ate about 10! I also made some dauphinoise potatoes (well, a version of, with cheese) but he did not even entertain them despite being chock full of cream, butter and cheese! Oh well, at least he got the taste of the nuggets! So thanks headfairy! I shall now now try it with other meat, and see how it goes, but I shan't get excited, and be happy that is one more thing to try him, although I suspect tomorrow he won't want it!

lamb no he doesn't like hummous, but he does like pesto. He also quite likes spice from time to time, but like your DD, dislikes potato unless it is in chip form...

Pavlov - I've just come back to this thread to tell you that your chicken nuggets idea were a big hit here also. Last night we also had a success with pancakes. I added grated cheese to the mixture as soon as I put it in the pan so it cooked in with the batter IYSWIM. Then I added ham. Most of this was picked out, but at least she ate the cheese in the pancake as she don't realise it was there. Might be worth a try if you have't already.

lamb oh glad the chicken nuggets worked. I tried it last night with fish, and that was also a hit for both kids! along with home made chips which I was actually surprised he ate but he did. I feel like a right proper domesticated mother now Grin.

Oh yes pancakes, I forgot about those, DS does love them (so does DD of course, she loves most things!) but only with sweet things on. In fact, I should make some banana pancakes for breakfast...

DH made HFW breakfast cheesecake with went down well yesterday. I am wondering if maybe we are turning a corner...but I won't get too excited about that!
