That's it really. I need some lovely, infallible roast potatoes for Christmas dinner. I thought that someone said Iceland's were good but can't remember. Also - how big a bag would you need for 9 people? Ta!

Yes, but, Harpsi...roast tatties...

ChunkerXmasCake · 19/12/2005 21:18

PMSL at lazy parsnips! I'll only allow energetic ones through my front door (preferably ones that'll help me peel spuds )

zippy539 · 19/12/2005 21:18

Giddy - please don't be offended! I liked your suggestion!

So, zippy. Was there something wrong with my Waitrose suggestion? Huh??? Huh?????

zippy539 · 19/12/2005 21:23

Okay - M&S it is. Thanks all. Now can I suggest that everyone just calmly walks away from this thread before it becomes some kind of spud-gate. Anyway, haven't you all got potatoes to peel? .

Zippy. They should be bloomin' grateful that you've offered to cook in the first place.

bauble99 · 19/12/2005 21:25

Move AWAY from this thread. There is nothing to see. A few carrots got pureed, but you've all got homes to go to.

zippy539 · 19/12/2005 21:25

Sorry bauble - no Waitrose round here. No call for that fancy unfrozen southern food in these parts...

santabops · 19/12/2005 21:25

I buy them....

In fact dd told the childminder she didn't like her raost potatoes (proper from scratch ones) but preferred mine!

Usually buy Tesco or McCain ones - both are fine

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 19/12/2005 21:26

oh my god you can buy roast potatoes ready roasted???????

you learn something new every day....

bauble99 · 19/12/2005 21:26

No Waitrose

zippy539 · 19/12/2005 21:27

That's the gauling thing bauble - I didn't offer, dh did it for me.

Have now read thread and remembered Aunt Bessie are much nicer than the ones I have already mentioned.

zippy539 · 19/12/2005 21:28

Ah santabops - sanity returns to Mumsnet. Thank you, thank you, thank you !

I have 3 bags of roast potatoes in my freezer as I intend to be a slob on Christmas morning! One bag of Aunt Bessies and one ordinary Tesco one and one Tesco roasties with garlic.

Love doing my own usually but feel I derserve to not be slaving away in the kitchen when everyone else is having fun - I'm not missing out like I normally do! Bah!

Caligyulea · 19/12/2005 21:30

OMG. This is in danger of turning into a grapes-status thread.

santabops · 19/12/2005 21:30

Agree life is too short to peel and par boil.

However, I am doing a cauliflower cheese from scratch for one of the vegetable options...

Caligyulea · 19/12/2005 21:32

Show off.

santabops · 19/12/2005 21:34

Well yes...

and a homemade honey roast ham for boxing day

OnTheFlossDayOfChristmas · 19/12/2005 21:34

My spuds usually come out really nice in olive oil with a few dried herbs bunged in. Went through a 'herb' (no not that type) era a few years ago. We had herbs with everything!

bauble99 · 19/12/2005 21:36

This, from the woman with a son called Basil.

ChunkerXmasCake · 19/12/2005 21:36

Brussels? You mean you haven't had them boiling away since September?
