Making some crab apple jelly. Would it be ok if I left the pulp to cool before straining it? The recipes don't specify, but I am scared of scalding myself.

Its fine to do that. I used to have a hook under a kitchen cabinet that I'd hang a muslin bag from full of the pulp. This year i couldnt be bothered with the faff as we had so few to make it from so I just naughtily pushed them through a sieve. Not so clear but still very yummy.

I don't think it would matter except that presumably the boiling pulp scalds the strainer as it goes through. You could pour boiling water through your equipment first to clean it.

Great, thanks. I'm intending to use a pillow case and a hook in the garage Grin
