Coffee Quaffle Cake - Help!

My DS has come home from school asking me to make him a coffee cake (ie coffee flavoured) and decorate it to look like a Quaffle.

Quaffles, as I am sure you know, are red balls. My question - could I make a regular coffee/walnut-type cake and coffee icing and then cover the top with strawberries and/or raspberries? Would the combination work or would it be vile? I'm really reluctant to make coffee cake and then just cover it in red icing.

Any suggestions and advice gratefully received.

I definitely wouldn't pair coffee and raspberries or strawberries together - no no no.

I think you prob need to bake two in Pyrex dishes so you have two domes and then sandwich them together. You could make coffee flavoured icing but add loads of red food colouring.
