friend made a chicken pie when we were there on Tue with left over chicken from a roast, veg, gravy - and then topped it with buttered slices (butter side up) of left over french stick. v nice

Make breadcrumbs...stick on freezer for future use - eg on top of a crumble, on top of shephards pie, bread sauce for chicken (cook with butter and milk to make thick sauce), loadsathings!

croutons!

Erebus · 25/09/2011 13:48

Thanks all! Do I just 'grate' it to make breadcrumbs?

put slices of it in blender to make breadcrumbs or food processoor.

If you want to eat any you can soften it in the microwave for few seconds.

soak it in milk then squash it all up

add sultanas, sugar, vanilla and two or three beaten eggs

pour into a buttered dish and bake at 180 for around 20-25 mins. It should rise be a very light bread and butter pudding.

How about a savoury bread pudding? This one is a really nice winter tea and you can add whatever you like to it.

Drunken cheesy bread

Remains of French stick
2 slices ham or cooked bacon
1/4 onion, diced tiny
2-3 oz cheese, grated (cheddar or gruyere type)
70-80 ml White wine

Cut bread into 1.5" slices. Tuck into a baking dish which just fits the bread. Spill the White wine over the bread. Sprinkle over the onion, ham/bacon and cheese. Bake at 180 for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is crusty. Devour.
