Anyone got a good recipe? I want a winter warming stew/casserole, that I can just bung it all in and leave to cook itself
TIA

I just fry an onion, add the beef (roll it in flour first or sprinkle some on when it's in!), then when it's browned, add any other veggies I fancy (root veggies).

Then a tin of tomatoes, top it up with boiling water and bring to the boil on the hob, add some pearl barley (I love it - some people loathe it, I know), then put it in the oven on gas mark 2 or 3 for a couple of hours.

Just had it, in fact - was lovely!

I put,

2 onions,
2/3 carrots,
2/3 potatoes,
1 parsnip,
2 packs of good diced beef,
2 beef oxos,
squeeze of tomato puree
glass of red wine,
teaspoon of mustard,
salt and pepper,

put all together and pour on boiling water then slow cook for a few hours, mmmmmmmmmmm

Thank you so much. Sounds like you kind of bung in anything you fancy and then cook it very slowly.
Yummy

I do a kid friendly one!! basically as you sai, bung it all in! brown the beef add chopped onions. Blitz up a tin of tomoatoes with a red pepper, mushroooms, green beans, courgette - anything you fancy. Bung it in. Add garlic, basil oregano, black pepper or again anything you fancy and add a dash or 2 balsamic vinegar and let it sit in the slow cooker for ages. For the kids I thicken it with tom puree, for dh with gravy granules. I tell the kids this is Italian stew and then they wantit with pasta as they don't do potatoes at the moment, nor do they do veg in sauce (hahahaha!!!!)

hunker what's gas mark 2 or 3 in centigrade?

and snowmangeliz, how long do you cook for? is it in a slow cooker?
