Where can I buy pudding rice?

Just plain, ordinary good old fashioned pudding rice? Everywhere I've tried has rice pudding in tins pah and about 10 different sorts of rice, but no pudding rice :(
I want to make a rice pudding like my nanna used to make (I have a slow cooker, after not having an oven for 7 years, and am dying to make it) and can I find the rice? Can I buggery eckerslike :(
We don't have Waitrose here btw, and Sainsbury's would mean a trip to the next town...

sainsburys and tesco both do it

in sainsburys it's in the rice section., but nomrmally right on the very bottom shelf along with flaked rice, tapioca and semolina etc

I can't think where to look for it, but I'm sure most supermarkets have it. Maybe where the tinned fruit/jelly/custard/other pudding-y things are?

Tesco had none when we were there, but perhaps if I can go armed with the "but you DO stock it" they might be able to find some, or let me know when they expect some. Asda, Morrisons, and Aldi just don't even admit to knowing what it is :( I will track it down somehow! I might just have to bite the bullet and go on a major expedition to Sainsbury's... sigh. I shall buy every bit they have lol and stock up for the Apocalypse!

Internet search pudding rice, or ebay some madman is bound to sell it on there. Good luck as rice pudding is yummy.

you can make it with risotto rice if you can't find pudding rice...

I can't bring myself to buy food from random ebay sellers - too many dodgy experiences with non food purchases! Plus the postage would be horrendous surely? it's heavy... I shall try tesco again and sainsburys and hope for success. There's one of those huge Tesco Extra places not too far away, they might have it even if the one in town doesn't.

oh DOH! thisisyesterday can I? NOW you tell me! All is well then lol, now that I know that, and everywhere had mountains of risotto rice, everywhere I go will have pudding rice in too. It's one of those immutable Laws of Nature - once you find something that will do, the original thing pops up all over! Grin I may even have to get some yahoo and make a chocolate one Grin

When I asked someone in the supermarket, I was told it is now known as Short Grain Rice, so that is what I use for rice pudding. It tends to come in small packets and be stocked next to the Semolina. Its been rebranded!

My local Indian shore sells it. Well, they sell more types of rice than I knew existed.....ever, anyway.

And they chat to you at the till and they tell you how to cook things.

I love my Indian shop.

We don't have any lovely shops here :( I would love to be able to shop in Indian or Chinese (or anywhere else for that matter) - I love finding new things and experimenting to see how they turn out. We just don't have any though. There might be some in Middlesbrough I guess, but it would mean tracking them down and making special trips for shopping and it's just not practical :(

every supermarket i have ever been in has sold pudding rice.

often on top shelf, or bottom shelf, and out of the way. Ask an assistant.

I have bought it in asda / sainsburys / tesco / waitrose and seen it in morrisons.

Supermarkets stock it but not with the other rice. Try with the baking and pudding isle.

waswondering - you just do it the same as per normal but put in slow cooker - no extra bowls nec. makes it nice and creamy with a very slightly different taste - which my super fussy/silly son said he didn't like.

every supermarket sells this rice - apart from the convenience ones

My friend's mother makes it with basmati rice. In a slow cooker. With rose water and cardamom. It's delicious!

We have it in our local co-op called pudding rice - pink packet. It's only a little local branch to.

Our Asda sell it. But it is not with all the other rice but is with the tinned fruit, jellies and other puddings. So maybe look around the puddings/tinned fruit bit.
