Quick question re cooked chicken.....................

I bought a ready cooked chicken from Tesco's today. I want to serve it for dinner, but it's cooled down a lot, it was warm when I bought it. Question is can I heat it up in the oven? I'm really wary with chicken and the kids'll be eating it.

Thanks!

Pretty sure you can reheat it - just make sure it's piping hot all the way through.

thanks wwb, any idea how long it should be in the oven for?

Doesn't it say on it don't reheat?

WigWamBam · 10/12/2005 16:34

Depends on how big it is - three quarters of an hour to an hour should do it, I'd think.

Nooooooo, If it's one of those from their hot Chicken Counter, don't reheat it.

I would heat it, eat it in a reasonable time, and throw any leftovers away.

I often reheat already cooked meat (eg make stew from remains of roast)

I think sweetkitty is needed

I think home cooked roast is different

I buy chilled cooked frickadelles (sort of like sausages) and heat them up to eat.
Surely the chicken shouldnt be any different? except that it was presumably cooked only a few hours ago.

zippimistletoes · 10/12/2005 16:54

I think if you try to reheat whole in theory it won't reach the high temperature required to to kill off potential baddies so the safest thing to do is take it off the bone to reheat.

If it's from the hot chicken counter, it's been kept hot for some time already. I'm sure they used to have a label on saying "do not reheat" when I've bought them. Cooked/chilled is different.
