Have replaced microwave with one with a grill (I can manage) that but also does convection and combination cooking. Does anyone use microwave in place of traditional electric oven and if so is it cheaper and what works well. Also a recipe for a 5 minute microwave cake-again does this actually work (coffee/walnut victoria sponge etc). Seems too good to be true-a 5 minute cake. Any hints/tips appreciated!

Ooh, I've just started a thread like this in food.

5 minute brownies

5 minute flapjacks

Microwave sponge - can add syrup or chocolate sauce.

I had one of these, as it was just me in the house, it was more economical as it was a smaller oven to heat. The jacket potato button was fab! Perfect spud, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside all in 12min! Can't beat it!
I never used the grill bit as my (oven) grill had a half-grill setting.

Wolveschick.......I want one of these. Which brand/model did you get?

Pinner35 it is a cookworks silver 23L one-£50ish at Argos-half price. Reviews online said it won the Which report vote for microwaves. Very solid, looks a bit industrial. BTW the Brownies turned out fabulously.
