Anyone use a convection microwave for cooking?

Hi
My microwave has a grill and is also a convection thingy. I have never used it for anything other than conventional microwaving but would like to have a go at making at cake or something in it.
WHat do i need to know? Are they are good websites/books on cooking in a convection microwave? Is it just an ordinary cake mixture? What tin do I use? Because it's not the microwave thing can I use a normal cake tin or does it have to be microwavable tupperware?

If you are using it on the convection oven setting you can use normal metal oven dishes, the timings and everything are the same as a normal oven. No difference except it is smaller and rotates :) Hope this helps

What do you use the grill rack it comes with? I lost mine ages ago. Is it just for grilling or is it also a shelf I need to replace if I want to use it as an oven?

you can use the rack as an extra shelf but you dont need it to use the oven feature. You do need it to grill though, or you do in mine anyway, the grill is not powerful enough to reach the bottom.

bugger it. Tried the convection bit today to get it to preheat and it doesnt work

Mine is a Sharp one, I used to have one and found it great but am not overly impressed with this . I hope its just user error. To preheat just press convection button, i think it is important to fully preheat it before you start. The grill only works at the back part of oven but i did grill some bacon and it was ok. Mine according to the blurb could cook a full christmas dinner--maybe i should start now!!
I have cooked cakes but just on convect. The combi part i find good for baked potatoes as they taste better and dont take so long
I dont remember with my old one having to fiddle with all the shelves.
If you check something and then put them on for longer -caefully check you are on the right setting-i microwved some yorkshire puddings the other day
I got a recipe book with mine why dont you contact makers and get instuctions. I know people who use these with great success and i will once ihave mastered all the buttons!
