Haricot bean horror.

I've just boiled and boiled and boiled some haricot beans which I'd taken the trouble to soak overnight and they taste really bitter.

What's wrong? Are they just too old?

have no answer to your query, unfortunately - though nigella says to soak chickpeas with some bicarbonate of soda - I wonder whether that wouyld help at all here?

Spider--I would bung them out myself. Maybe they were old, I hate to waste food, but if they are bitter, I don't believe they were meant to be eaten!
