does it need pre-soaking before cooking or is it not as salty as a gammon?

Cheers.

Nope. No soaking esp if unsmoked. Try cooking it in coke! Trust me! Google for loads of recipes fir this, namely nigella

I'd second cooking it in coke, bloody lovely.

ChablisLover · 27/08/2011 21:37

Do you simmer it in a pot in the coke?

Do I need anything else?

Have seen nigella do it but it seemed a tad faffy.

imnotforty · 27/08/2011 21:39

I do mine in the slow cooker. Just chuck it in with a chopped up onion and cover with coke. I don't bother finishing it off in the oven.

Cheers everyone.I also do it in coke but have always had a smoked gammon& can be v salty which defo needs overnight soak. But baby is due today(no sign yet!) and diff to plan too far ahead. Thought of doing it in slow cooker with cider...yum!
