Can you make anything out of them except wine?

made some cough medicine last year

it did seem to help a bit, but we didn't have really bad coughs, but maybe that means the medicine was really good? it tasted better than the foul methyl stuff dh usually buys anyway

Cordial is good and if you make it with cloves in it then it is wonderful made up with hot water when you have a cold. Vodka is amazing too, just absobloodylutely amazing.

When I was about 12 my mum asked my brother and friends and I to go on an elderberry picking mission for her. As a result for what seemed like the next 4 years, we had elderberry crumble, pie, sorbet, ice cream... It just went on and on. I hate them now. Sorry Mum. :)

oh so you just eat them like any other berry? thanks!

I think if you wanted to eat them you'd need to mix them with something else (blackberries maybe) as elderberries have a very strong flavour...

Don't eat them raw, they can give you a very upset stomach and they don't taste very nice. They do however make the most wonderful jelly. Also fabulous in flavoured vodka or gin, apple and elder crumble, cordial, fruit pie.... particularly nice mixed with brambles and apples in pies and in jam.

Make bramble and elderberry jelly - delicious!
