Scald the milk?

Have a recipe here for a Russian poppy seed roll (Mak) which is like a swiss roll with poppy seed mixture rolled up inside. Starts with "scald the milk". Does this just mean heat or is it more like boil?

Anyone know (not much of a cook...)

Bring the milk almost to the boil then remove the pan from the heat immediately.
