Does anyone have a good flower/gum paste recipe?

I have a recipe but it never seems to get beyond sticky - I have a feeling the icing sugar quantity in the recipe is wrong. I have a heap of flowers to make and don't want to waste money on bought stuff.

I was told by the lady who taught me that home-made is never any good, and cannot be rolled sufficiently thin enough. A packet of bought stuff will make plenty of flowers, and when you think of the time, and therefore labour, involved the price becomes almost negligible.
