Here

Glad I checked back before typing!

Enjoy!

It's great with the creamy potato gratin in Nigella Bites and red cabbage.

Standard winter meal for visitors in our house!

we do it on Christmas Eve too and then have the letovers with the leftover turkey - lovely!

ENIDeepMidwinter · 01/12/2005 19:24

is it nice?

have always been too scared in case it mucks up a perfectly good piece of ham

might try it though

I LOVE it. Very moist.

Don't really taste the cola IMO.

I've cooked it the conventional way too but with varied success. Once it was quite dry.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 01/12/2005 19:38

yes it's yum

OnTheFlossDayOfChristmas · 01/12/2005 19:38

I can do it, you can do it!

puff · 01/12/2005 19:39

yes, mine usually dry out, so this sounds as it will cope with even me cooking it!

sammac · 01/12/2005 19:42

This is so yummy. One of dh's favourites. Loads left and the crust is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

tassis · 01/12/2005 19:43

Doesn't appear to say in WWBs link, but it's in the book - don't use diet coke!

motheroftwoboys · 16/12/2005 16:37

Have done this before and it is gorgeous. Usually have gammon hot on boxing day and then cold with cold turkey, coleslaw, pickles and baked potatoes. Yum. Bit nervous about it all this year as we have moved and I have lost the AGA I have had for 13 years so will have to do grown up cooking! Hope I don't screw it up. Having a turkey crown thing as there are only 3 of us. Have ordered a free range kelly bronze one so SHOULD be good. Going away for New Year so didn't want loads of left overs but will miss making turkey soup.

Why is it cooked in coke? I don't understand.

Milgestoe · 16/12/2005 17:09

The sugar in the coke caramalises all the way through. The absolute key to success, is to use genuine full fat Coke, The Real Thing, not Asda's Basic Cola, and especially not Diet Cola. Aspartamine does horrid things to ham and makes it taste absolutely grim.

just had this for dinner - FAB, although they werent so keen on the crust in our house would probablyt just pu tmusturd on it, have loads of leftovers - anyon frozen this and eaten it later or will it get too dry?
