bleugh to both.

misdee · 11/10/2003 20:57

sorry, who's it for?

Jimjams · 11/10/2003 21:25

concentrate type apple juice. The orange squash probably contains something revolting like aspartame. DS1 who is on a very restrictive diet can drink the latter but not the former so therefore the latter can't be that bad iyswim.

WideWebWitch · 11/10/2003 21:43

Squash is probably worse since it's very likely just sugar, water, e numbers, flavouring, sweeteners etc. The apple juice made from concentrate might be better but it doesn't count as one of your fruit portions if it's concentrate. It does if it's proper apple juice but only counts once even if you drink more than one portion.

coddy, you can dilute apple juice with water, it often tastes quite strong anyway.

Not all squash is full of crap though. We get the High juice stuff, which has 50% juice in it (some of it "comminuted", one day I will find out what that means), no artificial sweeteners and only preservative chemicals. Mind you it says dilute 1:4, I think it's disgusting like that, I always do it about 1:8. It comes in orange, apple, lemon, tropical, apple & blackcurrant, summer fruits, autumn fruits, grape and melon, peach...I could go on!

Dilute the apple juice as much as you can get away with.

princesspeahead · 12/10/2003 20:24

I treat apple juice as if it were ribena - dilute it about 1:6
about 2ce a year they get apple juice boxes and they never finish them because they think they are too strong.
never given them squash, because I hate the taste of it myself and it has e numbers in it...

judetheobscure · 12/10/2003 20:31

What's the difference between apple juice from concentrate and "ordinary" apple juice? I give mine apple juice with their lunch and count it as one of the "5 fuit and veg a day". Don't know whether it's concentrate or not.
