Chicken soup left outside for 6 hours- yes or no?

Chicken only half covered by soup (basically boiled the whole chicken with veg ). Forgot about it and left it for approx. 6 hours on the side before putting it back in the fridge. It was quite warm yesterday, temp in the kitchen definitely over 20 degrees. Not worried as much about the stock as about the chicken that was sticking out iyswim.

Would you eat it today? Would you give it your dc?

Nope I wouldn't I'm afraid. I made a chicken casserole and left it out (by accident) for about 6-7 hours. We ate it and came down with horrible food poisoning Blush.

I just woudn't risk it with chicken.

ivykaty44 · 05/07/2011 17:26

did it rain in this time- if no then fine, if yes then tip away down the sink.

winnybella · 05/07/2011 17:28

No, sorry, didn't leave it outside, left it on the worktop.

No, I wouldn't risk it.

Awomancalledhorse · 05/07/2011 17:38

I'd eat it. I like to live life on the edge Grin
I leave all my meat dishes in the oven/on the side overnight to cool down enough to go in the fridge & am yet to have food poisoning.

winnybella · 05/07/2011 18:24

That's encouraging, Awomancalledhorse.

Hmm.

I wouldn't eat it - I don't take risks with chicken.

ivykaty44 · 05/07/2011 18:39

Don't take risks with chicken - they cross the road badly help them over Grin

Cheria · 06/07/2011 14:23

I have done it myself, same with leaving stuff in the oven to cool down. But I wouldn't dare feed it to anyone other than DH and myself, just in case.

uninspired · 06/07/2011 21:28

ivykaty what is the significance of the rain?

MoreBeta · 06/07/2011 21:29

No. Extreme risk of food poisoning.

MrMan · 06/07/2011 21:32

Give some to the cat, if he is still standing after a few hours try it on DH next. If both survive give to DC Grin

(animal lovers, I am kidding )

reastie · 06/07/2011 21:34

No, I defo wouldn't

ivykaty44 · 06/07/2011 23:39

the rain may not be clean - it depends where the rain has been before it got up there into that cloud - then if it rains in your dinner - well it maybe clean rain and it may be dirty rain.

if it is dirty rain then I would avoid eating any dinner that had been left outside, as the dirty rain may distort the taste of the chicken.

TheLaminator · 08/07/2011 14:13

ivykaty44 - i think op meant OUT as in not IN the fridge, rather than outside. might be wrong tho?

I probably would eat it, lots of stuff gets left to cool, often over night in our house and we`ve had no gippy tums here.

kayah · 08/07/2011 14:18

If your soup was covered I would eat it.

I assume that it was thoroughly cooked.

throckenholt · 08/07/2011 14:20

As long as it was covered, and you thoroughly heat it through now I would eat it.

ivykaty44 · 08/07/2011 20:13

I wouldn't eat it now - its Friday and you would be best not eating soup made on Monday that you did or didn't leave out in the rain, not sure on that point Confused
