Brunch: naff or OK? If OK, any suggestions?

Dh has just remembered to tell me that a friend/ colleague, his partner and their dd are coming over and staying at ours this week-end. I was about to throttle him when I thought he might be useful to help me tidy the place up before Staurday.....
Anyway, they will leave around 2pm on Sunday, so I don't think a full sunday lunch is an option (we'll have a very nice dinner on saturday night).
Was thinking of just having nice big brunch mid-morning instead with usual juice, tea/coffee, croissant, toast, eggs, muffins, smoked salmon...
Is this naff?
If it isn't, do you have any suggestions to make it special? Don't want to look mean by not making them lunch!!

A nice tip for serving a fruit salad is to serve to fruit on a large platter of ice

might be able to get fresh snow even instead of ice if weather report correct!!!
