Making strawberry jam

I'm thinking of trying this recipe as we went a bit over the top with strawberry picking today and ended up with too much. I've never made any jam before so I'm wondering if I'm supposed to wash the empty jars right before I sterilise them in the oven, or can I wash them the night before and then just pop them into the oven the next day when I'm ready to use them?

Night before is fine. Jar it up into hot jars from the oven and stick wax discs and lids on while still hot.

If you still have to buy the sugar think the preserving stuff is better for strawb jam than ordinary as has pectin added to help it set.
