Trout moose and cream cheese wrapped in smoked salmon, made into a parcel secured with chive so looks like present, looks impressive, doesnt cost much and easy to do and make in advance, something else to go in the fridge!

We often have smoked trout, scattered with very finely sliced red onion and capers, served with lemon wedges and soda bread (nicked the idea from an amazing seafood restaurant in Kinsale). Its great because basically no preparation and little washing up required.

have to go with the salmon mousse in this house - although we end up eating so much of it with toast that we aren't that hungry for the main course....

I actually really enjoy melon and parma ham, with some ginger sprinked on the melon. Very tasty but very light so doesn't ruin the appetite for the really good stuff (roasties and pudd).
