pipe then dirctly onto the cake - practise drawing them first though.

additionally you could draw/trace a dolphin shape onto greasproof paper using pencil and them using a pin prick the outline onto the cake and pipe over it.

Buy some dolphin stickers and stick them all over and save yourself the hassle!

katymac · 20/11/2005 18:29

I can't draw - I can barely Ice

there must be a book or somthig in the house with dolphins on? even an encyclopedia? using greasproof is easy to race.

the pin option is the easiest as more accurate.

philippat · 20/11/2005 18:32

simple dolphin template

helsi · 20/11/2005 18:32

additionally, if all else fails, your daughter is old enough to understand that telling you the night before is not practical really!

Twiglett · 20/11/2005 18:33

what have you got in the house that is dolphiny?

do you have any wrapping paper - toys - pictures - do you have a colour printer that you can print stuff out?

describe the actual cake - is it pre-iced and covered in 3d sparkles and goo?

Twiglett · 20/11/2005 18:34

can you make cakes??

katymac · 20/11/2005 18:35

I can make the icing look like waves with the white and blue icing

Then use ready roll dyed blue to cut out dolphins?

A couple on the top or little ones all the way roubnd?

Could you print off a dolphin picture, , a few if you can, Cut them out, and stick them to cocktail sticks which you could put into the cake? Or would that just look naff?

katymac · 20/11/2005 18:37

The cake is in my imagination - I was going to start as she went to bed

It is chocolate with chololate butter cream in the middle with white ready roll icing on top (to be covered in hearts and flowers with one of the barbie type sprinkle tubs)

Now I will get as far as the white ready roll icng and start thinking blue/sea/dolphins?

OP posts:
katymac · 20/11/2005 18:39

could I adapt this?

To cover the whole cake separate the areas with the blue tube icing and fill in between with runny icing?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 20/11/2005 18:40

far too complicated for a cake I think ... especially if you're not sure of your artistic skills

so you're starting from scratch .. great

hang on a tic .. let me see if I can find anything to help

katymac · 20/11/2005 18:43

Could trace this?

OP posts:
katymac · 20/11/2005 18:44

What I need is instructions to make a plasticine/playdoh one - then I can make it out of icing

Twiglett · 20/11/2005 18:45

I would do a round cake and cover in white icing then draw something like this on the top

use the stencil that phillipat gave you?

Twiglett · 20/11/2005 18:46

does she have any dolphin toys at all .. little ornaments ?

that would be easiest then you could still glitter sprinkle the cake and just pop on the little dolphins on the top

katymac · 20/11/2005 18:50

Can do the cake blue & white for the sea

Can cut out small white dolphins (from the stencil phillippat gave me - thank you Phillippat) and stick them round the edge

Then on top I can use these ideas to get a larger dolphin in blue/grey ?

GREATauntymandy · 20/11/2005 18:51

why dont you make a fairy tale Dolphin cake?

katymac · 20/11/2005 18:52

OK AuntyMandy - but tell me how?

OP posts:
katymac · 20/11/2005 18:56

Off to bake cake - will be back when it is in the oven

Please be clever while I'm gone

Blandmum · 20/11/2005 18:58

Do the cake in flat blue icing and them use a cut out of a dolpin and dust it on with icing sugar?

katymac · 20/11/2005 19:04

That's nice idea - very sophisticted

OP posts:
Blandmum · 20/11/2005 19:07

And very easy!
