Wholemeal pasta that tastes like white pasta?

Any brands you'd recommend? My nearest supermarket is Morrisons.

I'm trying to make the switch to wholemeal pasta but want a brand that my kids will eat too (ages 4 and 7) so would be good if it tastes v similar to white pasta. Then I can go gradually more hard core when they've got used to it!

I only serve wholemeal pasta at home. To be honest, when it's smothered in tasty sauce, there's no real difference in the flavour. I'd encourage you to just go for it rather than fanny about trying to break them in gently...

If you serve wholemeal pasta with a tomato based sauce, you really can't notice the difference. It's more obvious with a creamy sauce and I must admit I still prefer white with a creamy sauce Blush.

Sainsbury's do half and half pasta which is very good.

wholemeal pasta is vile, if you are worried about too many refined carbs then serve less of it and not more then once or twice a week

Thanks guys - food for thought ...

We have used wholemeal pasta for years and can't taste the difference. Start them off with a strong sauce and they will be fine.

tesco organic wholewheat spaghetti goes down well with my two (age 4 and 7)

I broke my DP in by doing 50/50 white and wholemeal pasta for a couple of months. Now we only use wholemeal.

bigTillyMint · 10/06/2011 07:28

I agree with the others - we only have wholemeal - have for years and no-one notices any difference.

Infact my friend nearly had a heart attack when I dished up wholemeal pasta - spag bol - for her DC and they wolfed it down - she had sworn blind that they wouldn't touch it Grin

Wholemeal pasta used to be vile in the 1980s but now is surprisingly nice. Has it changed?

AlmaMartyr · 10/06/2011 10:48

We only eat wholemeal and I don't really notice a difference. Kids (nearly 3 &1) like it too and wolf it down.

AuraofDora · 10/06/2011 10:53

agree with others, just give it to them with lots of sauce; hide the packet if they are alert types. It has better texture too.

MooM00 - i think you could be right. It did used to taste more of sawdust or something but I cant eat the white stuff now, it's slippery, vile stuff..

flibbertigibbert · 10/06/2011 11:28

For some reason, fuisilli tastes less wholemeal than other types of pasta. Penne tastes very wholemeal - I think because its more dense.

Thanks guys!
