yellow cake?

dp has just asked me to make a yellow cake. wtf is that?

apparently his friends mum made one. i've googled and it just seems like a normal sponge recipe to me.

he is sure it didn't taste any different to 'normal' cake but it had loads of jam on it so couldn't be sure.

i'm thinking of just doing a normal sponge with a bit of yellow food dye?

Sure it wasn't marzipan? Like a simnel cake?

Or maybe it was an orange or lemon cake?

BlooCowWonders · 01/06/2011 15:47

victoria? madeira?
either way, if it's got loads of jam, it doesn't really matter what you make...
:)

definately not lemon, he hates that!

i've just seen a recipe on here for one so will give that a go later.

I would do a normal victoria sandwich with yellow food dye.

I think it's a US thing, they have yellow cake and white cake.

Hm, it could be a reference to the eggs? I know that if you do a sponge with only the yoke and not the egg white you get a very yellow sponge. Could do that and then just do normal victoria (i.e. lots of jam).

Snuppeline · 01/06/2011 15:57

We call it "sunshine" cake where I come from and is done when we have lots of yokes left from doing marengs or something similar. I have a recepie somewhere, can dig out after school run if you like.

I've heard my American relatives refer to yellow cake which seems to be a slightly richer and more buttery sponge, more like pound cake. I often wonder if the name comes from a box cake mix.

I think its uranium. Don't give it to him, sell it to Iran.

Grin goodasgold

I still haven't got around to attempting a yellow cake. I made him a lovely strawberry loaf instead.

may attempt it on the weekend though.
