a small amount of fresh orange juice mixed with water should be ok, preferably at a meal time as it is quite sugary. The vitamin C will also help with iron absorption.

Thanks, will try him with some at teatime.

i was going to but some kiwi the other day and somone told me that its dangerous(!) and is really bad to give to a baby. Is this true? not sure if i believe it, but didnt get it just in case.

lindster · 13/11/2005 14:00

sorry was meant to say 'buy'. teach me not to read what ive written b4 posting!

PeachyChrimbo · 13/11/2005 14:05

Certainly, kiwi is quite likely to cause an allergic reaction, I THINK it's one of the commoner food allergens? Can't quote a research study, but remember reading it and certainly I am sensitive to the skin- a tiny bit on a slice of kiwi and my mouth ulcerates.

I think well watered OJ is fine from 6 months? Been a while since I weaned though!

chipmonkey · 13/11/2005 14:32

I gave ds1 and ds2 kiwi when they were little. I think its one of the fruits that is more likely to cause allergies, but wouldn't be dangerous for everyone.

NannyL · 13/11/2005 14:53

Yes kiwi is quite likely to cause allergies (as fruits go)

Im convinced im allergic to it as eatig it ALWAYS makes my lips go really soreand the fell like they swell up ( I saw a programme quiet recently about kiwis and how some people are allergic to them and can even go into anaphalactic shock with them, and i havnt touched once since and never will)

i think they dont recommend introducing citrus until 8 or 9 months.

im sure some diluted juice wouldnt hurt.

also lots of veg have vitamnin C in as well, or things like peaches!

cheekymonkey257 · 13/11/2005 16:36

Come to think of it kiwi has the same effect on me, even makes my tongue sore. I think i'll leave it a while before giving it to DS. Thanks for all your advice
