It's in everything FFS I don't buy ANY marg. even the best org. non hdrog,'cos it's always got the stuff in it. It's environmentally suspect and it's saturated fat.Must be cheap for the manufacturers.

I had to go on to butter. Which is a bit of a disaster as I have to eat it if it is in the fridge.

I get caught out with traditional organic ice cream. The packaging is so lovely that I get fooled, then when I get it home I find it is half gum half palm oil.

ppeatfruit · 20/05/2011 10:28

Yes trice!!My DS bought some, very expensive and made from cashew nuts with the gum and palm oil I can't eat any of that so i always read labels (it annoys DH but tough!!)I have to make my own!!

I use olive oil instead of butter it sounds weird but is very nice on toast or ryvitas etc. also almond oil and rice oil in cooking.

TalkinPeace2 · 20/05/2011 12:58

Maybe its time Mumsnetters started naming and shaming the brands with hidden palm oil
then this would stop

i mentioned it to my friendly local H.F. shop owner he didn't seem that concerned but it means I can't buy approx. 60% of his stock. I'll check that web site out thanks Talk.

Do you think there are many who are properly informed on here or anywhere?

TalkinPeace2 · 20/05/2011 19:13

There will be if people start to inform them....

m&s have palm oil in their roast potatoes. I know roast potatoes aren't healthy but I like to get the £10 meal deal occasionally and you have to be really careful with the labels in there as the biscuits and the cakes have it in too. You probably end up ingesting spoonfuls of the stuff.

bluebump · 21/05/2011 11:39

There is palm oil in Boots Shapers bars too. (not hidden)

IslaValargeone · 21/05/2011 11:48

I had no idea whatsoever that palm oil is an issue.

Itsjustafleshwound · 21/05/2011 11:53

Palm oil is a dirty little secret that is well hidden in labels - vegetable oil kind of covers them ...

Itsjustafleshwound · 21/05/2011 11:55

article though dated from '09

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2011 14:29

Itsjustafleshwound thanks for that. it's quite shocking isn't it? IMO it's the big manufacturers who need to be threatened with boycotts
