Is there REALLY anything wrong with this?

I only ask as i told my sister what we (my charges (5 and 3)and i!) had for tea tonight and she genuinely thought it was unappropriate

i personally dont think theres 'that' much "WRONG" with it as such but do accept it may not be a coventional meal!

We had...

Roast (organic) chicken with gravy
courgettes AND cauliflower (the last veg from last weeks organic box that needed using today really)
with tricolour pasta with butter on.

This was because....

  1. are are running down the freezer and chicken was all we had.
  2. organic people didnt give us any potatoes yesturday so we couldnt have potatoe
  3. having rice pudding for pudding meant i didnt give them rice
  4. i would have considered a 'chicken pasta veg white sauce bake' thing BUT having had macaroni cheese and cod mornay already this week, i felt we really ahd had lots of white sauce, + we were having home made rice pudding which is very milky!

so do you think theres anything wrong with that tea?

My sis has made me feel like im feeding inappropriate food, BUT i figure protein, carbs and veg isnt too bad.... surely???

ermmmmm nope can't see a problem with that !

Enid · 10/11/2005 18:42

how completely mad of your sister

whats so weird? that you had pasta instead of potatoes?

Gomez · 10/11/2005 18:42

Would probaly gone tomato rather than gravy on the sauce but in general appears fine to me!

WigWamBam · 10/11/2005 18:43

Looks like a perfectly well-balanced and acceptable meal to me. Why does she think it's inappropriate? Is it the pasta she thinks odd?

helsy · 10/11/2005 18:44

Fine - better than we have some nights.

Twiglett · 10/11/2005 18:48

sounds better than the mussels and pasta I fed my 2 tonight (4 and 1 ) ..LOL

your sister is bananas

NannyL · 10/11/2005 18:49

Im glad you think that

i think she just couldnt accept that you CAN have roast chicken with pasta (or even gravy with pasta!) and was SO insistet i started to think maybe i was wrong.

I may have done a tomatoey sauce except my eldest charge REALLY does not like tomatoes / tomatoe sauce at all, and given that he eats pretty much everything else i dont force him on that!

Thanks everyone!

one of my fave meals is roast chicken shredded and tossed with taglietelle and a few other things

Carmenere · 10/11/2005 18:58

Tell your sis that Italians eat pasta with meat juices (ie gravy) regularly and that she may be being a bit 'provincial' in her outlook

hatstand · 10/11/2005 19:06

can someone tell me what "innaproriate" food is? Would "farfella with strips of organic chicken, and lightly steamed vegetables, in a stock based emulsion" be appropriate?

ThomCat · 10/11/2005 19:33

What does it matter what you serve as long as a) it's pretty healthy (which is was) and b) the kids are happy?

Jeez, I can understand it if you gave them sugar sandwiches and microwave chips or something.

Sounds like a fab tea to me (yours and the sugar sandwiches!!!!

Blu · 10/11/2005 19:34

Did you not have Tomato Ketchup with it?

NotQuiteCockney · 10/11/2005 19:35

I could imagine, that, say, this meal for breakfast would be "inappropriate" in some sense. (I also wouldn't mind in the least, but then "appropriateness" has never been a guiding principle in my life.)

But it sounds like a fine tea.
